If you haven’t had a chance to attend a meeting… please stop by and give us your input. We’ve had educators, administrators, janitors, parents, business people/leaders, community groups, students, concerned taxpayers, retired educators, and all kinds of folks give us some terrific information about what they’d like in our next superintendent. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come to the meetings and be such a crucial part to the entire superintendent search process!
This information will be used to create interview criteria for the actual superintendent search committee and the search firm.
Stop by… this is a pivotal time within the directions of APS. Let your voice be heard! Especially you EDUCATORS! We need to hear from more of you!
Thanks!

I’m sorry to disappoint you but there is no
ideal superintendent. At best, the super is a
manager, maybe a facillitator. It is up to the
board to find and bring innovation to APS. No
one can fit the bill. Employees need to become
more involved in decision making and take
responsibility for reform. The board needs a
staff that can provide it with honest feedback
on what is happening in the schools because
they cannot trust administration to provide
an honest evaluation of school performance.

I’m batting around the idea of attending the Highland HS session on the 11th (tomorrow). I looked for an email, and couldn’t find one, so I’ll just ask here: what is the format/structure and such of these sessions? How will the “APS Employee” sessions be different (other than the obvious)? Thanks for any reply either here or to my email addy.

Juan: I encourage you to fill out the survey on the APS website. It can be found within the Superintendent Search page. Your comments/concerns will be included with the other information gathered. If you don’t have recommendations for characteristics, qualifications, and priorities for the next superintendent, you may still provide your thoughts in the appropriate areas.

Hey scot,
I don’t have your email addy so… here’s your answer…
The questions on the survey and the questions provide at the meetings are the same. Of course, depending on your affiliation, the answers will be different. All information is being compiled into interview criteria for the search committee and the search firm to use in the interview process. You can submit your answers (or questions, if that is the case)on the website survey or go to a meeting and have your responses recorded there. The meetings have been interesting because the people attending have worked with each other and prompted each other for lots of additional responses. Also, there is a survey on the ATF website (link is on this blog under “Educational Resources: Albuquerque Teachers Federation”) and is more of a closed-ended, choice survey. You may also send your comments to the email on the Superintendent Search webpage on the APS website.
The meetings have a professional facilitator and are very interesting, especially considering where the meeting is being held, in terms of what people are saying they’d like to see in the next superintendent. Also, many people have questions about the superintendent search process and get personalized answers from the facilitator and/or the attending board members. I like the meetings because they are interactive.
Go to the website to see the actual survey questions… they are very open-ended.
I hope that answers your questions. Feel free to email me (see my “About” page) if you have other questions/concerns.
Thanks for responding.

PS… the invitation flyer and additional information was sent out to all principals and to all-users (supposedly) so you should have that information. If you don’t, it is on the superintendent search webpage on the APS website.

I attended one of the community mtgs. and the facilitator was great! It is exactly as Natalie described. I encourage everyone to go or at least participate in the survey.
Did Principals receive the dates of all these meetings or only the employee meetings?
I tried my best to start an email loop to get people to do the survey. I hope you were flooded with them :o)

Hey Renee,

The “You’re Invited…” flyers went out and there were also additional emails that went out to the principals. Hard copy flyers went out to for backpack distribution to every school. Of course, it’s always up to the principal of each school to manage getting the information out to their staff and students/parents.
Thanks for coming and providing your input and thanks for your support.
